Reform of medical regulation
Introduction
In 2007 the Government published a White Paper, Trust, Assurance and Safety – The Regulation of Health Professionals in the 21st Century, which set out a series of proposals for the reform of medical regulation. The GMC welcomed the publication of the White Paper as providing the basis for a lasting settlement in relation to professional regulation.
The reform process has continued with the Health and Social Care Bill currently being considered by Parliament as well as a number of Parliamentary Orders that will be implemented over the next two years.
